The Process

Screenwriting

Every video project begins with a script. In this stage I plan captioning, voiceover, and develop a shot-for-shot plan. This ensures I have all the raw assets I need to streamline my filming, and eventually editing process later.

Filming & Sourcing

I utilize stock imagery and videography for any non-specific shots that are needed. From there, I develop a shot list and correspond with actors/volunteers if needed. Once on set, I am the director, producer, and AV guy all in one: I ensure mic levels are correct, set up lighting, and frame all of my shots. After shooting I immediately go through footage and name them for easier editing, as well as create 1-2 backups for every single shot. Some may call this overkill, I call it saving money by not having to call everyone back in to reshoot when a file corrupts.

Editing

I edit primarily within Premiere Pro, and when needed I also utilize AfterEffects, I am also familiar with FinalCut Pro. I have also used Capcut in the past, but favor a bulkier video editing software professionally. My process varies dependent upon the desired result, but I usually edit in four phases. Phase one is creating my sequences and larger graphic effect cuts that I may need AfterEffects for, this enable me to edit faster in the long run. Phase Two is the bulk of my editing: rough cuts, general placement, audio tuning/mixing, and adding any needed text. Phase three is my fine tuning stage, and this often takes me the longest. I go in and visual and audial transitions, create masks, and polish my earlier cuts. Finally, phase four is my peer review, final edits, and resizing phase. These phases ensure the final product is what is desired, every time.
